Beyond the Bootcamp: A Personal Debrief
It’s been a little over two weeks since bootcamp ended. Time flies huh…
To recap, bootcamp for Law school in SUSS refers to a six-Saturdays grind to get our gears moving for what’s to come - kinda like formative modules. Throughout the six weeks, the focus boiled down to the following: how to write legal arguments, avoid assumptions, and exercise critical thinking. On many occasions, through Profs’ and students’ input, I went “OH RIGHT!” but it’s all in my head LOL. The sessions were interesting and thought-provoking to say the least. There were, in total, 8x 1-hour TMAs to assess our argumentative writing, language proficiency, and application of critical thinking. The marked papers were generally returned on a weekly basis, some with useful feedback for the long run.
Guess what, I might actually miss bootcamp. Maybe it’s the new-thing hype, or maybe it’s just something so different from what we normally do, but the reality is it sets the tone for what’s to come. We are talking about spending what is essentially a whole day in school to kick start our legal education; a safe, enclosed space where we meet people of diverse backgrounds each taking their own baby steps. I can look back and safely say yes, it’s six Saturdays well spent.
